WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR APPOINTMENT

During your one-hour appointment, you will meet with a registered nurse, who will talk with you about your concerns and specific situation. Your nurse will perform a urine pregnancy test and provide the pregnancy test results. They will evaluate the need for STI testing, go over your health history, and answer any questions you might have. For more information, check out the information boxes below.

Your first appointment

Pregnancy Testing and Ultrasound

One in five pregnancies do not carry to term. If you receive a positive pregnancy test at your appointment, we may offer an ultrasound to determine the health of the pregnancy and how far along you are. It’s important to know where you are at in your pregnancy because this will affect what options are available to you.

STI Testing and Treatment

If you are thinking about an abortion, your nurse will look at your need for STI testing. Having an STI at the time of an abortion increases your risk of developing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, which can harm your future reproductive health. All My Future Approved clinics can test for chlamydia and gonorrhea and provide treatment or referrals for more testing.

Options and Resources

At the end of your appointment, your nurse will provide you with a list of referrals based on your specific needs. She may also schedule a follow-up appointment if necessary and will go over any further questions or concerns you may have.
